Magnetic Particle

The Magnetic Particle Inspection is another Non-Destructive testing method used by EWF Group for locating surface and subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic material such as Iron, Nickel, Cobalt & some of their alloys. Depending on its operation on the face when the material or part under test is magnetized, discontinuities that lie in a direction generally transverse to the direction of the magnetic field. This causes a leakage field, and therefore, the presence of the discontinuity is detected by using finely divided ferromagnetic particles applied over the surface, some of these particles being gathered and held by the leakage field. This magnetically held collection of particles forms an outline of the discontinuity and indicates its location, size, shape, and extent.

Our Strengths

Personnel
  • ASNT/CSWIP/PCN/ISO9712 qualified personnel
  • Continuous in-house training & competency monitoring
  • Vast experience in various industry
ADVANTAGES OF

MT

  • Rapid inspection of large surfaces
  • Relatively low equipment cost
  • Detection of surface and slight subsurface defects
  • Immediate interpretation of indications
  • Can be used in workshop and on site.
  • Surface preparation is less critical than with Penetrant Testing (PT)

LIMITATIONS OF

MT

  • Restricted to ferromagnetic materials
  • Requires supply of electricity
  • It is sometimes unclear whether the magnetic field is sufficiently strong to give good indications
  • Cannot be used if thick paint coating is present
  • Some of the paints and particle suspension fluids can cause fire risk, particularly in a confined space
