UT BASED

Time Of Flight Diffraction (TOFD)

Time of Flight Diffraction is an advanced ultrasonic inspection technique that is suitable for fast and reliable results. It is a technique which can simultaneously detect and size defects. TOFD inspection employs two longitudinal wave (L-wave) angle beam transducers arranged symmetrically opposite facing each other, whereby one probe acts like a transmitter of ultrasonic energy while the other probe receives the ultrasound energy. This inspection method is best suitable a wide range of applications such as inspection of piping and pressure vessels.  This technology complies with the requirements of various industry standards (ASME, API, DNV, EN-ISO)

ADVANTAGES OF

TOFD

  • Suitable for wide range of materials including plastics such as HDPE
  • On stream inspection at temperatures exceeding 400°C
  • Applicable on material thicknesses from 5 to 200 millimetres
  • No harmful ionising radiation
  • No need to interrupt production
  • High Probability of Detection (POD)
  • Exact information about indication length and depth
  • Inspection data represented visually
  • Direct interpretation of results
  • Inspection data available in digital format
